Extending a washing machine waste hose

Hi everyone

This is probably a fairly straightforward question but I am a reasonable DIY-er and I must be missing something...

Bought a new washing machine that came with a short hose. There is a 17mm outlet on the sink trap to connect to, but hose is too short. So I bought another hose and a 17mm male-male connector. The connector fits perfectly onto the end of the existing hose...and onto one end of the new hose. BUT the other end of new hose does not fit the 17mm sink outlet. If I try them the other way around - same problem - end of the new hose goes on the 17mm outlet, but other 'smaller' end wont connect to the male-male connector.

Can anybody help? Have I got the wrong thing?

You have a universal extension washing machine hose, Fit the new hose to the Machine hose using the Insert and tighten up the jubilee clips,
the smaller end is designed to fit a standpipe waste pipe, it just hooks into the stand pipe,
cut off the smaller end of the pipe at required length fit over the 17mm outlet on the trap and tighten up with another jubilee clip.

So are you saying to connect the end that is on the right of the picture as you look at it, to the machine hose, and the other end (the bit with the 'collar') to trim down and connect over the 17mm sprigett?

Whichever end fits the connector connect to washing machine waste pipe with jubilee clips , other end cut off and fit to 17mm pipe outlet with Jubilee clip,
The bit in the middle of your picture ( Half Round) is the support if you were to fit to an open standpipe waste fitting. ( this can be thrown away )

OK, so just to confirm, on my picture I cut ALL the rubber end off? So the end of the hose is the plastic section - no rubber left on at all? Can I jubilee it like that?

Only reason I ask, is that when trying to push it onto the spigot the plastic hose and the spigot are exactly the same width and it just doesnt want to go on..

The outlet hose diameter is 21mm - how would I connect it to a 21mm connector?

Try dipping the hose ends in boiling water, and then shoving them onto the connector when the plastic is soft and more flexible

The original spigot on the Trap should be tapered to take the inside of the hose , I am guessing that the last time a washing machine was fitted someone may have cut part of the taper off or it was too long , the hot water trick should work, or cut back the hose.
Make sure the waste pipe is looped and higher than the waste outlet of the sink trap, to stop washing machine waste water coming back into the kitchen sink.
