hi.

i am trying to fit a new wall light and the cable is about 4 inches to short.

is it ok to just buy some more twin and earth cable and connect the two pieces using Red Butt Connector Crimp Insulated Terminals and push it back into the wall please ?

if not what should i do. junction box is a bit big to dig out a load of plaster and bury in the wall ?

many thanks

Yes but use a ratchet crimper to make the crimp and from experience don't buy at Screwfix their new supply of butt crimps do not make good connections.

excellent ! Would you be able to tell which of these would be the most appropriate please ?

You need to ensure the butt connector matches the cable size.
I would assume you are going to use 1mm2 T&E so the connector should reflect that size conductor.
I would imagine a 35Amp connector would be way too big.
I would imagine that Halfords connectors are more for the motor trade than a T&E electrical connection.
Better off going to one of the sheds and buy a pack of 20 - then practice with the rachet crimper tool.
Do not use one of these:

Or one of these:
