Morning all,

Looking at purchasing the house pictured with the intention of extending over the garage and eventually into the loft (as the neighbours have done).
When they extended they included a frosted glass window on the side of the house, would you envisage this causing me an issue if I were to extend over the garage? I don’t know whether blocking their light to this window would be allowed?
Thanks!

You need to check the council's planning policy for building close to the boundary. It's got nothing to do with blocking light to that window.

IIRC all side facing windows now have to be frosted on new builds and extensions

Two points to consider concerning the window.
1. Right to Light - window has to be to a habitable room and has to have been in place for at least 20 years to acquire a right to light. It looks like a small landing or bathroom window so possibly not a habitable room and if it is in an extension is it less than 20 years old?
2. Planning - Blocking the neighbour's window could be considered a loss of amenity but as it looks like a small window to a non-habitable room that may not apply.

Proximity to the boundary could be an issue. I have seen it where one neighbour builds up to the boundary with a side extension and a subsequent application by the neighbour is rejected to prevent "terracing".
