My son has a, 1890ish terraced house with a small 1.3m extension to the rear of the kitchen, 2.5m wide, constructed probably about 40 years ago. As the solid kitchen floor has always been damp, we decided to replace it with an insulated solid floor under building regs. To our horror we discover that the extension has no proper footings, so digging down even 300mm will expose the problem, Unfortunately, my son put a decent flat roof and windows in the extension three years ago, otherwise demolition would be the answer.
Am I correct if I assume that when the BCO visits next week, the options he offers are going to be either, demolition, proper underpinning, or leave the damp floor as it is?
