Hi, sorry if this is obvious to everyone else :)

I took off the three hinges from the front door and replaced them with what appeared same height width, screw hole hinges.

The new ones are c102x76 ball bearing hinges.

In moment of stupidity I threw away the old hinges and I think they were different/ pin ones from c1970.

Now the door does not close properly, it seems to have moved closer to the lock side of the door. Everyone has to slam the door hard.

Do I simply go and buy narrower hinges? So if I bought pin steel ones 100 x 71mm ones that work if have same hole points? Is it the width measurement that affects when door closed? Not obvious to me.

Screw holes aren't the problem, clearly your old hinges were a thinner steel while the newer ball bearing hinges are thicker and seeing as you pressumably haven't sunk them into the timber any further this now means the door is set too far over to the locking side which will also show a bigger gap on the hinge side

Ok thanks just ordered some new hinges from Screwfix 2.7mm -> 1.7mm thick, and I'll try 76mm width to 71nm. Friggin cold to change them (have flu right now), but I'll see what I can do this week
