We had our the outside of our house painted in May......it is only August and some of the paint on the sills is starting to crack and peel already.

A white satin paint was used and I know that it is not as long lasting as gloss....but 3 months ???

To be honest I don't know how well the painter sanded down the sills beforehand....the peeling is appearing at the places where it had peeled before any just painted over these.

We have had some really bad downpours this summer....would that have made any difference ?

The last paint we had on our house lasted a good 5 years.

If the sills are wooden then masonry paints should not have been used, or are you referring to the masonry sills?

Photos will help.

Do you know which brand of paint was used?

There are a lot of awful "tradesmen" out there. I don't want to malign yours but out of interest, where did you find him and why are you asking for advice here rather than asking him to rectify things?

Sorry, it is not my intention to seem combative. I decorate for a living but I would be mortified if something I painted failed so quickly.

Downpours- erm, they happen every year. If I paint a property, I want it to last in excess of 7 years and hope that bar very minor remedial work, it will not need repainting for over 10 years, and that when it is repainted the requisite prep will be minimal.

Yep...they are masonry sills and we got him from the decent work he did for a neighbour a few doors down.
Their sills aren't peeling and their work was done 2 months before ours.

To be honest some of the work looks like it has been either not sanded down or sanded to the minimum and just painted over.

I hate moaning about work....he is a very nice guy....but really didn't expect this.

And at least I know now how long the paint should last for.

I will contact him and see what he says.
