External Door Frame Sealant

My house is 13 years old and the sealant around the external doors and garage door surround is starting to crack. Could you tell me the best tool to remove the old sealant and suggest the best type and brand to use. All the framework around the house is white coloured, will i be able to get a white 'mastic' or will i need to over paint with white gloss.

Use a sharp wood chisel, should do the trick. You can buy white silicon like the window guys use.

Is this better than mastic and does it last longer?

Sorry, when i said silicon i was refering to mastic. Silicon cant be overpainted.
