external monitor on laptop not playing media

I have a Ergo Laptop with a VGA port and a TVout RCA jack. My problem is that if i connect an external monitor or tv everything seems fine except that if i play a film whether it be in media player , bs player etc the film will not display on external screens but fine on laptop screen . desktop and everything else like media player controls display but just a black screen or part of where movie should be displayed .

I've had this problem where the display drivers can't seem to cope with dual display for video. If you toggle the display output to show only the external monitor, the video should work fine.
