Dear Forum,

We have received different explanations from different painters and would like your view. We have an external pebble dash wall which is in its raw state and would like to have it painted. All painters we invited for a quote mentioned the same paint - Dulux Weathershields which is good. However, one said the wall need 1 coat of stabaliser and 2 coats of paint; the other said the wall is raw and don't really need a stabliser but better off with 3-4 coating of paint.
Also, should the wall be clean with water or somesort to remove the dust that have been gathered over the years.

Thanks

powerwashed 1st
stabiliser/ anti fungicidal wash 2nd
then at least 2 coats of paint.

i aint a painter but have been involved in enough renovation projects to know that washing and stabilising was always done before applying the masonry paint.

I woujldnt put stabiliser on pebble dash..

Stabiliser need to soak into a surface, if not it just sits there and can cause the paint to blow..if they are 'pebbles' using stabiliser could cause problems

Stabiliser is meant for absorbent surfaces only..its a stabiliser..not a seal

Try ringing the Helpline and tell them that th stabiliser will be going over non absorbent stone

I would definately pressure wash it though

Thanks all for your response. could you please adviser whom I should be calling to clarifying as to whether stabliser is suitable for pebbledash.

Is there quality difference between Dulux Weathershield and Sandtex mansory paints

Thanks again

Any of the main paint companies have help lines and all sell stabiliser.

As for the paints, I dont like Dulux weathershield..I find it thin and doesnt cover as well as other brands, like sandtex trade..it also skins over quickly in the roller tray when your using it.

Obvioulsy its a good product, its bene around for a long time but its just my personal opinion
