Hi thanks in advance for all replies. Im wanting to build some raised planters in the garden, but keeping it as simple and as cheap as possible. Can these be made out of breeze blocks and then rendered, or will breeze blocks be too absorbent? im wanting render them and then paint. Can render be bought ready mixed for this type of purpose?

any tips or pointers or suggestions are greatfully received.

Thanks again for all replies. Cheers

Apply PVA to the blocks before you render them. It'll stop the blocks sucking all the moisture out of your mix before it has time to adhere.

Cheers joe for the tip....because im thinking of making the planters square in shape, should i attach angle beads to keep the corners / edges straight? Never used external render before. Thanks agian for the reply.

I just built two 8 x 4 planters from ICF (Insulated concrete forms) and got them Decopierre rendered to look like natural stone. Dead happy and whole job over a weekend.

Without stepping on anybodies toes, dont use PVA outside, its not for external use... SBR on the other hand is made for external use...
