I'm wanting to fit an external socket from the kitchen...

The kitchen has a ring main that is connected to a RCD protected consumer unit.

Am I right in thinking that I can do the following:

Kitchen Socket
(on ring main ------ Fused switch -------||-------- External socket
not a spur)

(the || is the wall)

I presume that I'd need it signed off by a part p qualified electrician.

Thanks

Rich

If your socket is truly on the ring main (this should be checked) then you can just spur directly off that and into the external socket. No switched fuse needed, unless you want to switch it off from inside to stop the magpies from nicking your lekky!

That's it.

Do seal the back of the box properly where the cable enters, and drill a drain hole in the bottom of the socket box.

Nope, this work is no longer notifiable. So you can do it all yourself.

In any case, a "Part P qualified Electrician" (whatever that is) could only cert and notify his own work.

The plan sounds good to me! (FCU or DP Iso switch)
The work does not need notification but should be tested and have a minor works cert.
