External wall feels damp

Hi all, we are in a 1920/30s end-of-terrace house, with solid walls. The wall in the hallway that is external wall is wallpapered, and it always feels a bit damp. But we have not seen any mould, and the wallpaper seems to be well attached. We are in the middle of repainting the hallway, and don't plan to strip the wallpaper as it would be too much work. Wonder if there is a way to tell whether this is damp or condensation? And if it's damp, is there anything we can do to the exterior of the wall to improve the situation please? Thanks!

Never rely on touch and never rely on instruments unless you know how to interpret readings

If the wall is experiencing structural dampness, you will see it - its stains and its salts.

And bear in mind that every wall absorbs moisture and is damp and has surface "damp" to some extent.

The gable wall has been re-pointed at some time - the re-pointing isn't all that great.
Maybe it was re-pointed in an attempt to prevent damp penetrating through the solid wall?
The gable brickwork shows dark patches here and there where the brickwork has possibly absorbed rain.


The interior shows a few very faint dark "shadows".
But I wouldn't attempt any kind of measures on the exterior or the interior.
Why not carry on decorating and have another look at the surfaces in 12 months or so?
