External Wooden lintel.

So I am helping someone with odd jobs. They have a wooden lintel over their window. They have painted over it multiple times and filled the small cracks with regular wood filler. It's definitely still structurally sound but she wants me to pretty it up.
Any advice?

It looks how it is supposed to look with a bit of character and age to it. You could sand it a little and paint it to reduce water ingress, which will neaten it a bit. What does she want it to look like?

OP,
Chisel out all the wet rot - dont leave any in the beam.
Treat with some kind of anti-wet rot and fill with a suitable filler.
What is the rough looking material immediately above the timber lintel?
