I've just fitted an extractor fan, it'll be used on recirculation mode so isn't connected to ducting. Well, when I say recirculation 'mode', there doesn't appear to be anything to change as such e.g. no switch to flick inside the unit. So when it's on, it's essentially venting cool air into the void around the unit i.e. air that would usually go up the exhaust.

I would have thought when recirculating, the hole atop the unit should be capped off, no? There's nothing in the instructions to suggest it should. Indeed it says this which seems to indicate the air should indeed just blow into the void?

'Recirculation mode: With carbon filter, the smells and odors can be filtered and vented through the top vented hole and the exhaust pipe is not required.'

So it's right enough?

That is the way they are supposed to work, in most peoples opinion they are a waste of time used without being vented outside.
