I have a new house with extractor fans fitted to each bathroom. There is a switch on the outside wall, next to the light switch, to manually turn the fan on/off.

I think I can guess already but would the fan be connected to the lighting circuit, ring main or dedicated supply? As there are no mains sockets on the wall (only the light switch and extractor switch) I reckon it must be provided by the lighting cicuit.

Thanks for any advice

That is the normal, unless the fan is very high powered, the lighting circuit is fine, as the fan will draw similar current to lamp.

Energise the fans then switch off lighting circuit(s) and see if fans go off.

You will likely be correct.

Good idea about switching off the lighting circuit - I'll try that thanks
