HI
I am after some advice.
I wish to build a false chimney to house my TV and to add a focal point to my ‘boxy’ lounge.
I have no problem building the chimney and plaster boarding it.
The real help I need is with the fireplace below.
I want to put a gel firepit in there. Just like this....
Bear in mind this is not going to be a primary source of heat as I have CH,
but more of a used a couple of times a year for a few hours in the evening
in the winter when friends are over type-of-thing.

It only puts out about 2kW when on.
Having seen the instructions regarding this, I need to create a fireproof box with these dimensions. See below.
I was initially thinking of getting a metal fabricator to build me a 5 sided box
with a cutout for the firepit out of 2mm mild steel. I fully understand that
the box would have to be supported away from any combustible materials
within the chimney.
I have spoken to a few and they have come back quoting over £300 for it.
Ouch.
That is a bit out of my price range for the project.
Can anyone suggest a cheaper, but equally safe alternative to making this firebox?
I was thinking paving slabs?
Any input would be most appreciated.
