Had one in our garden on some wood that come from my garage. I refraining from picking any spider up now. My 7 year old liked to pick em up so had to tell her not to do so.

A few years ago I put my outdoor coat on, felt a slight stabbing and within an hour my arm had swelled to double its size. I had to go along to A&E.

I've had a few indoors and I have loads in the back garden, well I have a few less now. I noticed last year and this Spring that all the other different types of spiders were not in the garden anymore so I started killing off the false widows. Not all of them (impossible) and am pleased to say the other spiders are returning. More balanced..

Sounds horrendous, you poor chap!

On a trip to Guatemala when walking in the jungle we had to put our torches on our foreheads to light up the tarantulas eyes so that we didn’t step on them.

I’m not a fan of spiders but hornets scare the crap out of me.

I remember a large hornet motoring its way through the middle of a Greek taverna: it did quite well, it managed to get almost every person to run outside.

I had a pretty big hornet in my office last years - it was sitting on a box of screws, its wing span was the width of the box - it was about 3X the sizes of a wasp.

I had a hornet in the loft, disturbed by loft conversion. Massive, evil thing. Luckily it was sunbathing on the new roof window so I managed to shoo it away.
