Did not want to hijack the other thread. Have decided on the S & P Silent 350.

Room is like this:

Door is currently bottom right, but will be moved bottom left, just to the right of the white rectangle.

Bath is going in the LH recess, sink roughly where it says "2540mm", WC in top RH corner & shower in bottom RH corner.

I know fan grille & door should be as far apart as possible. Joking aside, should I put the fan grille over the WC?

Floor joists run parallel with window, ceiling joists in the opposite direction.

One has to ask what does the fan do.
It removes steam and odour.
If steam condenses rather than being sucked out it gets towels etc wet.
If odour is not sucked out without crossing the bathroom it makes very little difference.
So I would aim to remove steam without causing too much draft so close to shower.
The main problem with fans is where is the air replaced from? We clearly don't want to draw flue gasses the wrong direction and fill the room with combustion products neither do we want to cause cold drafts. So I would consider not where to suck out from but more where the air is replaced from.

Thanks eric. The door is going bottom left of that plan, so that will be the source of replacement air. There are no flue gases to worry about.

The grille and the source of replacement air need to be as far as possible from each other, don't they? That's why I was thinking about putting it above the WC, not to remove smells, but to give the greatest distance between the two.

So do you think over the loo is a good place to put the grille?

:) I couldn't make up my mind last night.

I think it depends whether smell or steam is the bigger concern.

I know the wc is farthest from the door but I would put it over the bath (farthest end from the door),

Is that long rectangle at the top a (huge) window?

Thanks EF.

Steam more than smell!

Yes, it's a window.

Here is a hastily prepared plan of the new layout. The dimensions in the old pic, although reasonably accurate, were not to scale.

The green cross is where you are suggesting the grille should go?

According the fan manufacturers it should be the furthest point from the door - in your case you have three potential steam inducing and one smell producing zones.
Personally I would put it above the toilet since this is also the shortest route for the steam to travel from the two major sources the bath and the shower.
I would also add that you may need a higher rated fan than the standard bathroom fan given that both shower and bath are in the same room. While you may not use them together, steam lingers. (Didn't someone write a song about that? )

Our bathroom is almost identical to your plan. The fan is over the WC close to the ceiling. Gap under door lets in fresh air. It works well.

OK. So I'm finalising the fan installation now.

Thanks for all your comments.

I'm taking it that opinion has it that over the WC is the way to go?

I've had the chippie take a slice off the bottom of the door too.

TLC sent a 500, not a 350.

Yep over the WC looks favorite to me too, and also there, there's no issues of fans in bath zones and ELV to worry about either.
