I know (well just found out). Am without email also. Server 'block' in London got hit by lightning this night and they are supposed to get things back online very shortly (i hope).

Don't go to B&Q, you'll regret it for the rest of your live ;)

I was kidding. I'm busy stripping the walls today. Just done the 15 and a half inches of woodchip between the picture rail and the ceiling on one wall, and it took me best part of 2 hours! I could PULL the paper off below the picture rail, but i fear the woodchip has been there a LOT longer! :(

Get a heavy-duty hand-held wire brush, and give the old paper a good roughing up.

Then apply a thick layer of wallpaper paste to it (as that clings and doesn't dry out), and have a sandwich and a beer.

When you return it should scrape off very easily.

Everything is up and running again (finally! Well, that's what you get if your site start with Wo... you'll end up at the end of the queue)

Or you could get a steamer.
Let's see.

I could use a hot, heavy tool that burns electricity, or I could sit and drink beer (or tackle another part of the job  ) while the water in the paste does it's work.

Hmmm....

:)

wouldnt the steam just condense on the surface of the paint for the most part?

anyway, im not doing the ceiling, just the bit of woodchip from the picture rail to the ceiling - so i can remove the picture rail and get the whole room skimmed. :)

and woodyoulike, I was quite impressed with B&Q's selection of real wood floors, though i wasn't quite so impressed with the prices

I concede that your method does sound like a good one but as I already own a steamer I'm inclined to employ it, and the part you put on the wall can't weigh much more than a wire brush.
