Farmers on the march

Only 54% of farms are owner occupied

Around 66% of farms are under 100acres

I wonder how many farms will actually face IHT

If you expect a single billionaire to be affected by this then you are deluded...

Although in future they will be earning much more by serving you up GM crops and antibiotic filled meat when they take over the family farms...

Hope you've got the stomach for that ;)

Yes, the dumb, know nothing townies are out in force on this one, wanting to bash the farmers for having some land that they need to pass onto their children to carry on producing the food we need for survival every day. Their green-eyed monsters can't wait to usher in the era of big farma - the massive growth hormone boosted factory farms. They won't be happy until we have to exist on the sort of rubbish that massive US agri-industry churns out. So what if we lose the smaller family farms that have been producing quality food for generations they say.

The GM turkeys on here should be careful what they wish for.

Regan's fierce attack adds no information, but he clearly resents the idea that some prosperous people might have to pay some tax.

His position is easy to understand, but does not provide justification to support his assumption. This does not make him right.

Looks like tne beeb are standing by their original fact check :

They lost credibility when they didn’t know the difference between a hectare and an acre. But fundamentally nobody disputes this:

“The debate has revolved around estimates provided by farmers’ groups, including that the new tax could "harm" up to 70,000 farms over time.
Our analysis found that the figure was likely to be somewhere closer to the number provided by the government - about 500 estates per year. That remains our assessment.”

500 doesn’t sound a lot until you consider its per year. Both figures are correct and the beeb appear to be morons.

Which rate suites you in terms of the tax you pay - your yearly figures or your whole life during which things might change?

The gov's interest is how much they get each year.

Could harm 70,000 farms. 70,000 / 500 = 140 years. Things in the UK haven't changed much since 1884 have they.

It’s funny how all those Brexit supporters didn’t give a monkeys about farmers when talking about the damage leaving the single market would do….yet here are the same brexers saying how they’ve suddenly decided to love farmers.

500 out 200,000 farms is a low turnover/failure rate for any business sector, but the land will still be used in agriculture, unlike many empty shops in the high street.
The 70,000 figure is near meaningless spin by the CLA who campaigned for a brexit that hit small farms harder.

Biking from the boatyard is enraged by the idea that some multimillionaires might have to pay some tax.

Apart from that, he has nothing but hot air.

Oh look Motorbiking who thinks Brexit is wonderful despite doing huge damage to farming is all upset about farmers paying a bit of tax.

By amazing coincidence, Fartage has also invested millions in tax avoidance.

Sorry, in farmland.

Oooops

Same thing.
