Faulty Salus BC600RX interfering with Hive installation?

I have a Potterton Titanium 33 and the central heating didn't come on with the recent drop in temperature. The Salus BC600RX started to blink red intermittently and then starting clicking continuously. I tried reseting the transmitter - nothing, so bought a Hive (which we were considering anyway).

The Hive has been correctly wired (I think). After I have turned the boiler power on and off, I can turn on the central heating by pressing the button on the Hive receiver - the boiler fired up for a while but the radiators never get hot. The boiler stays on for a while, but then the Salus receiver just starts clicking again. It is like it is interfering with the Hive - I have effectively two devices telling the boiler to fire up. I have tried disconnecting the Salus, which just the four wires dangling, and also removing it from the PCB, but then can't turn on the central heating at all

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks.

Yes, both would have to be calling for heat at the same time, for the boiler to fire.

Can you show us the wiring connections and any labeling behind the Salus, and we may be able to help you bridge it out.

Try connecting the wires in terminals 3 and 4 of the Salus together in a separate terminal block.

I’m going to buy some 5 core tomorrow!
Yes, I was going to ask about that loose earth wire!
But also, try and neaten up those connections on the Hive - I would prefer not to see so much copper and straggly strands :)

Edit: I should also add - you don't need the link between L and terminal 1 on the Hive backplate as you already have connections to terminals 1 and 3, direct from the boiler.

Are you saying pull the wires out of the Salus and connect them together?
Yes, put the two black wires together safely in a separate terminal block (these are still carrying mains voltage).
That should bridge out the Salus completely, leaving the Hive to take over.

Thanks - we are getting somewhere- the radiators are getting warm but I still have the clicking coming from the Salus.
Ok, then remove the L and N as well, but again, isolate them safely in separate terminal blocks.

...or simply move the brown from terminal 2, to terminal 4 - it will effectively be isolated.

I’ve turned the heating off by depressing the button on the hive and the Salus is continuing to click annoyingly!

Bingo!! That did it! Thank you so much for your help.
Just wondering- could I get a jumper to join 3 and 4 on the PCB to do away with the wire and dead Salus completely?

Theoretically possible, but something an RGI may need to attempt. It would be far easier to simply connect/isolate the wires in terminal blocks and fit an appropriate blanking plate - I'm not sure if this one fits, but along these lines....
