Hi sorry to post it on here I'm just worried about a plug socket in my home.
My partner went to plug a charger in and it went bang and tripped the switch, they have turned the switch back on but the plug sockets stuck on, every time we try and turn it off it just flicks back on. Obviously we aren't using it but I'll be it ok until morning, I get very anxious about fires and everything
Thanks

Leave the MCB (I presume you mean a trip switch in the consumer unit, probably marked B32) turned off until the socket can be removed and replaced with a new one.

If the circuit is turned off it will not overheat.

If you are not competent at this work, find a qualified electrician.

BTW if it is an anonymous Chinese charger bought on Ebay, Amazon or a street market, fling it in the bin and save up for a reputable brand.

Heya thank you for your reply, it was a charger off Amazon! I will definitely get a better charger. Sorry to sound stupid again but would it be ok to leave it on tonight as it runs my fridge and freezer too but I'm scared about having a fire

Have you pulled the charger out of the socket?

Does the socket feel warm?

Is this a rented home?

A modern freezer will stay cold overnight. Don't open it until power is restored.

You might be able to use an extension lead from an upstairs circuit, or a cooker socket, if they are on a different circuit.

It's a rented home, the chargers been out since it happened and it doesn't feel warm no

If the socket is not getting warm, then most likely it is just the switch contacts or the switch mechanism damaged by temporary overload or short circuit, possibly age and wear are contributing factors. Do not use that socket until it has been replaced. Put coloured tape over it, marked "faulty"
