Faulty window handle

This window handle now rotates effortlessly, without the window being unlocked. Does that suggest that a replacement is required?

I am comfortable with replacing one of these if that is necessary. Can someone recommend a supplier for these please?

It can mean 2 things, 1/ the spindle in the back of the handle has come away and is now detatched or 2/ the square drive in the mechanism that the spindle slides into has failed causing the spindle to operate in thin air, both quite common issues. You need to whip the handle off to investigate both possibilities

I got the top cap and screw off but there no sign of the bottom cap coming off. Any suggestions please?

bit of perseverance with the edge of a stanley blade, , usually they are just stuck on. I have had to destroy a few in the past though that were incredibly stubborn lol

The perseverance paid off!
The situation was exactly as described by @crank39. The spindle had disconnected. I popped it back into the handle and everything works again.

A couple of questions please:
1. The spindle had pushed into the frame and hence disconnected from the handle. It can be seen in this image. Does this suggest that it's too short?

2. Am I able to purchase the caps for the lower screw as the current ones are bruised.
