FCU for wall display light: replace with double socket

In my living room, a spur from the ring main runs to a FCU near the skirting board. From the FCU, cable runs up a chase in the wall to a wall unit/feature display lamp, which is operated via a switch adjacent to the FCU.

I don't use the wall lamp and plan to replace the FCU with a single or double socket, giving me access to extra sockets on that particular wall.

Any problems with doing this?

Thanks
Bruce

No, should be fine, but make sure the previous installer used full size (2.5mm) cable to come from the ring, and add no more than one 13A load to one spur. Note that a double socket counts the same as a single 13A one for this purpose.

If adding more sockets, you will need to break into the ring properly

Here's hoping he doesn't mind his picture being lifted.

PS cables to be routed in approved methods - see 'for reference' at top of forum.
