Hi All.... Ferroli optima 701 combi boiler, 10 years old. Have replaced PCB, and the standard 7inch Expansion Vessel with 8inch to cope with number of rads. Fine for a year. Now noticed water pressure is above 3 bar. Safety valve keeps it there and no water seems to blow out of the overflow.
Twice this week, I drained ALL rads, pumped 1.5 bar air into E/V then turned water on at the mains. Even though the C/H filling point tap was off and burner was off, pressure crept slowly up to 3 bars.
When boiler was switched on (but filling point tap still off), fired OK. Both DHW and C/H OK but pressure remains at 3.
Suspect the Heat Exchanger has a pin hole in it.
Will pouring a sealant in a rad fix it or be a waste of time & money?
A new boiler or £300 H/E part is not an option at this time.
As the boiler may have been running like for some time, is it OK to leave it or could 3 bar C/H pressure cause a leak somewhere inaccessible?
Do these "saftey" valves fail ?
Your help will be very much appreciated.
Many thanks.
