This must be nearly a record....just completed the 7th front spring on a Fiesta (08 plate) this year  6 have been on the drivers side.
The spring is narrow at the top and bottom, so when it breaks the car lands on its nose :p and this one took the tyre and brake pipe with it :p
The spring costs only £18 trade, but if you do one, use a new strut pinch bolt and a new zinc plate between the spring bottom and the strut is recommended.

Its amazing in these days of 'advanced technology', I don't think I have had a coil spring break in 50 years yet they do it for a pastime now.

In the days when I did diesel conversions a firm called Wigan road Springs used to make them up for me, never had any trouble with those either.

Most can break a bit off and just make a funny noise when turning. But its a bit of an issue when it goes down and cuts the brake pipe. Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence going into a roundabout.

A recall that got forgotten about?

I think there has been some discussions on these courtesy of Honest John
but in reality I don't take too much notice....
Its very awkward for the owners though as the spring is about 3" dia at the bottom, then opens to around 8" and then back to 3" at the top. As the spring cracks near the bottom, the wider diameter part shoots over the strut holding cup on its way south, and the tyre often cops it. Hence the car has to be recovered by transporter as the wheel is scraping the arch.
There's never any corrosion on the spring, just a nice clean break :p
I can make a nice wee profit on these though :D
