Fiesta Ghia x central locking

Hi all. I am new here and to be honest am totally clueless about cars. I have been given a fiesta Ghia x 1.4 on an 'r' plate which is a result. Everything seems fine apart from the central locking/alarm. It works by putting the key in but not on the remote keyfob thing. I know its not a major problem for a car given to me but little things bug me. I have tried changing the batteries on the keyfob but still doesnt work. I have hardly any money. Caan anyone give me a pointer as to what i could check myself for this?? If not can anyone tell me roughly how much i am looking at paying to get this done??And possibly places to go to. I am in milton keynes bucks. Thanks everyone for reading this i hope someone can help

It may be that the flat batteries in the key fob have ment the key has lost its memory & needs reprogramming.
It will be something like, put key in ignition, turn this way turn that way etc, try do a goolge search on reprogamming the key.

I dont think the key is working as i have pressed the buttons on it and held them as the advice in the link said and no lights have came on. This is with the new batteries in. Any idea on how much it will cost me for a replacement? and where to go?

Make a few telecalls, start with a Ford dealer, that should be the dear one.
If you have a ford dealer near you might be worth going there, never know you may get a friendly man.
