Hi,

I've had skirting removed to get a wooden floor installed - I'm now left with a band of bare breeze/bric around the bottom of the walls where the skirting used to be - I've been told I need to fill to the level of the plaster before fitting skirting. - (I had the walls plastered a year ago)

Someone said use Gapfill - and put it on in very think layers - is this right? -

What's the best product to use and how should I do it - what about the deeper holes -where some brick have split... and the wires for sockets am I OK to use filler over it.

Any advice appreciated....

:)

I would use some one-coat plaster as a filler - buy a bit of cable PVC trunking to cover the wires. Once dried, a quick sand and then put your new skirting on :)

You don't need to fill before fitting, the original skirting was not fitted on a filled area was it? You may need a little packing if you are fitting a larger skirting than previous.

Thanks Sparko - esp for the trunking tip - makes sense :)

Foxhole - no not on filled area but some of the brickwork crumbled when the skirting was taken off - does this matter? what would I use for packing and what's the best way to fix skirting - will be using wood not mdf.

When the guy cut and laid the floor he didn't make them all completely on a line (the ends I mean) so there are some bits 10mm fm wall others 4mm etc etc.... he said once skirting on they'd all be covered and if not I'd have to use a wood filler - any suggestions of best filler (just in case)
