Hi All
I am fitting a larger radiator and need to fill in the chase at each end of the radiator approx 25cm each end, I have some easifill 60 to fill the chase about 50mm deep.
How long will it take to be able to sand and paint. I need it asap as the plumber can then come back and attach the radiator. All of the patch work will be behind the new radiator so doesn't need to be too neat
Thanks

If you want something that can be sanded sooner rather than later, look at Toupret TX110. It is cement based. 50mm deep, I would guess a day and a half before you can sand it.

If you want super fast, a tub of polyester filler. You will be able to sand it after about 40 mins. But you will need a decent sander.

More expensive, but the deeper the hole, the faster it cures.

It won't be seen so can I fill with easifill 60 and after 5 hours sand and paint

A 50mm deep chase will take a long time to dry out with Easifill.
It would slump and then shrink, requiring multiple fills.
You could attempt to pack the depth out with some stacked off-cuts of plasterboard, and then fill.
But for a quick result, I would be tempted to fill the chase with expanding foam, cut it back as flush as possible, and then apply a thin fill over the top.

I have done the same thing in the past, but you are looking at about one to two hours for the foam to harden enough to scrape back, and than you have to wait for the filler to dry.

Packing out with plasterboard absolutely makes sense. The thinner the depth of filler, as you suggest, the faster the filler will set.

I don't think it will be sandable, but if you get it almost flush, and then apply a second coat, you may me able to use a sponge to make it flat and then force feed paint over it even if the filler isn't dry.

I don't necessarily recommend the above though.

For what it is worth, Easifill 60 has a working time of 60 minutes. Easifill 20 has a working time of 20 mins, meaning the latter dries faster.
