Hello,

I have quite a few 80mm gaps to fill in where LED spots lights use to be.

Could I use plenty of scrim tape over these gaps then easy fill over them? I’m thinking the scrim mesh would be similar to drywall patches you can buy.

Thinking this will be quicker to do then screw plasterboard in the gaps..
Thanks

Scrim mesh has no ridigity Vs drywall patches. Will sag.

Tie string around some wood.
Slide in holes and drill small pilot hole through plasterboard while holding wood in place with string. Now screw through board to wood through existing ceiling.
Add screw.
Repeat the other side.
Now cut 80mm hole in some 9mm plasterboard. You can buy small handy board plasterboard to fit holes.
Lash board edges with PVA, both the new board and hole.
Leave a PVA hour to dry so best do this in advance. I used to cut hole fills and seal ready.
Some filler around edge of the board.
Push board In hole. One screw in the middle.
Fill over. Should have about 3mm depth to fill.
Sand.
Paint.
With PVA on dry board edged they don't shrink or crack. No need to use mesh tape over.
I've done 100s like that
