Just had our gas fire removed and therefore the vent in the wall is redundant. What is the best way to fill the redundant duct? It is a cavity wall which has been filled so dont want to pull the duct out in case all the filling comes out (also it wouldnt budge when I tried). Doing the work from the inside as not touching the outside till I remove a wall outside to get some matching bricks. On the inside I was planning on pushing a carrier bag (or similar) in to create a vapour barrier and putting insulation (about 75mm) then a 75mm wedge of mortar. Have cut the duct back 20mm from the inside face and the plaster around it to put a piece of plasterboard over and skim to finish. Just worried about what to do in the hole!

Thanks.

Maybe you could in a humidity sensitive hole in the wall vent (for fresh air)
