Hi all,

We've just bought a house with a very dilapidated swimming pool which we need to fill in.

I've just been looking at the cost of getting aggregates delivered and it's no cheap!

I was thinking that given waste disposal is a cost for most projects, would the ability to dump inert material for free be attractive to contractors or is the transport of such waste the big cost?

Thoughts appreciated!

Thanks

Thanks, much appreciated. That's my job this weekend - picking up a concrete breaker from HSS this avo!

Dig a big hole and use the dirt to fill the pool.

Block and beam cover with cellar?

Yes if building on top then block & beam is the solution, you cannot compact more than about 600mm of anything without it settling. Or, you could possibly use Filcor (effectively a more dense polystyrene) as a permanent form-work and cast a slab on top. https://cordek.com/products/filcor

You could leave a smaller hole and have an inspection pit. You can get fibreglass liners to keep any water out.

Yes this. Inspection pit is incredibly useful for working under cars. You need to be careful with ventilation though.

An empty swimming pool can float out of the ground if the ground water table is high.

It may be necessary to fill the pool with material that is heavy enough to prevent float out.
