I was looking at the Leica forum, and wondering:

is there any point in using a Film camera these days?

because Digital camera allow you to view and print your pics so quickly, and with so little effort? And they are better, smaller, cheaper than a Film camera?

If it is your hobby, You may not want to move on,
My neighbour loves all the old ways.
He has an old dial phone,
and a Push type lawnmower, his house is like the film back to the future

I usually take a waterproof disposable film camera on holiday. Great for on the beach or in the sea, and not expensive if it gets lost or broken.

Common digital cameras currently lack the continuous tone of film/slide and especially with skin tones and vibrant colours, its possible to tell the difference.

But yes, it is old technology and digital has so many more advantages - especially as most images can be post-processed in software

Indeed ... I've learnt that, with a few clicks of my mouse, I can make Mrs Megawatt appear quite pleasant

the classic Leicas (and most other pre-1960's cameras ) are only suitable for black-and-white pics as they do not have the right lens design for colour.

Most SLRs are ridiculously big and heavy.

If you do your own D&P the time and effort are off the scale.

Hi, I converted to digital about 2 years ago.
I have several digicams, all Fuji.(E900, 9500. etc.)
They 'see' in the dark and macro to 1cm photo to 500mm
Museum setting lets me take shots I could never get with film, and 9 MIPs
is enough for any printing system.
Any more questions?

This is weird, I cut and pasted the link to megawatts post and then created a new thread as i didnt want to highjack this thread and its posted ok elsewhere but noticed my username was here also and low and behold so is this post?? why has it posted here also?

I got a Fuji recently, it fits in my pocket and I am quite happy with it.

(though longer lenses would be nice)

funnily enough it is exactly the same size as my previous little camera, a Canon Ixus (with film) which I see cost me £275 and is now pretty well worthless :( as technology has overtaken it.

My enormous SLR is way out of date.
