Anyone had reason to install filter on gas fire.
Went to fire about month ago, fire 6.9kw in about year, 18months very poor flame. Stripped down found black dust in filter on BM valve. Cleaned everything out and blew though pipework.
Guy rang today and said thinks flame is starting to drop again.
Pipe run, about 2.5m 15mm from T at meter box running outside, through back of fireplace in 8mm approx 2.5 ft.
Know the guy that installed it, so know flux used etc. isn't problem.

As velocity is known to be contributory in this, would it be best to go 22 for the 2.5 m then through wall in 15 with smallest length of 8mm possible into valve and fire.

Or should I just slap in an inline filter somewhere behind fire if possible.
My thinking on filter is just moving the prob from one place to another and would be just as much of a b*ll*x to get in and clean.

Am sure theres a couple o' dino's on here maybe come across this in the past

All idea's welcome,

Thanks, Curly

Why not fit da filter just after the meter, bung a service valve after that and its a piece a cake to clean.

I've said that before but been told you need filter just before appliance, as you could get it after the filter again.

????????????????????????????????

Its either copper solphide or something in the gas

It's supposedly a reaction between hydrogen sulphide in the gas and copper which produces copper sulphite, this is no problem as such until it flakes of, flakes look like curled up shavings. Have also seen just dust which looks and feels more like graphite, which I'm not sure is the same thing.
If it coats the inside of the tube and is then dormant, what makes it flake, climatic conditions.

Gas suppliers have to supply gas below a stipulated minimum content of hydrogen sulphide. What is puzzling is why it can be in one house and not next door. In one geographical location and not another.

Why do they call it copper sulphite if you can get it in other materials.

The filter is to collect the flakes /dust, you need to scrub the gas to get rid of the hydrogen sulphide.

How do you "scrub" gas, do they have lots of little old ladies who were made redundant from scrubbing there front door steps since double glazing and now are gas scrubbers ???, what do they use a bucket of soapy water and a stiff nylon brush so as not to create sparks.

curlydon their is a chemical cleanser that stops the formation of dust, but you need to clear the pipe of all the sulphide.i have found a compressor works well fit an inline strainer with a valve in the right orientation and clean it every six months/yearly,dont for get to remove the meter and clean it as well[compressors and meters are not a good mix]

Stick the hydrogen bottle on the end, that gets rid of everything
