Hi all, i had one room skimmed two weeks ago. At first finish looked good. But now that its dry, the finish has a few rough patches. Its also not got that super smooth, almost gloss like finish u see on some walls. Does anyone know why this is? Ive also noticed a few pinholes on plaster.

Someone suggested sanding down the rough patches and corners. Is this recommended? Is so what type of sandpaper should i use.

Thank you.

it dosent have to have that super smooth finish, that happens when someone polishes it and closes it up the best finish for painting is a matt finish if you have a few small holes fill them with easifill or joint cement after mistcoating, also if you have to rub anything down use fine grit paper

Follow advice from above. If it was glossy then you would need to sand the surface, use a grade 240 sand paper.

A floodlight shone across the wall when its dark will show up every blemish and flaw.

Then its get the fillers out and start sanding. Then keep repeating with the floodlight until all the work mans blemishes are gone.

You shouldn't really have to sand new plaster at all if done properly. Sometimes though you may come across the odd blemish or two. You will see these better after the walls/ceilings have been mist coated. Blemishes can then be touched over with Easifill or similar, then sanded down with a fine 150 grit sandpaper.
