I'm looking to replace a manhole cover as the surround is cracked in a number of places.
The supporting structure underneath is more badly damaged and the cover rocks about quite badly. I suspect this will only get worse over time.
I have looked for a replacement surround and lid however can't find anything appropriate. I'm not particularly fussed about replacing it with concrete if metal is more appropriate or readily available. Given the weight of the concrete I would probably prefer to fit a metal replacement anyway!
The chamber is several feet deep and is made up of concrete biscuits with metal steps to one side. There is a single course of bricks on top and then the concrete surround sat on top of that.
The overall dimensions of the surround is roughly 99cm x 77cm and the cover is 72cm x 57cm. The lip on which the lid sits is obviously smaller but the inside dimensions of the chamber also looks to be around 72cm x 57cm.
The lid is branded Brierkrete and I assume the whole installation dates from the mid 80's when the house was built.
