I have just had an extension built and am renovating the now middle room, I have sanded back the floorboards which I think are pitch pine. The house is quite old and was built in the 30's. I am unsure how to finish, I was going to cover with Teak oil or possibly Tung oil but have read that this might not be suitable. I have read in this forum about Hard Wax Oil but there seems to be some horror stories regarding the application and finished results. Could you give me some advice please with the possible advantages and disadvantages?

On Pine boards we recommend to use a coloured HardWaxOil (like Golden Oak) to prevent the pine going orange.
If you read the instructions on the tin (and follow them, like having the right temperature in the room!) it is not that hard to apply as DIY-er and in our opinion more forgiving to little errors than lacquer
