Hi all,
I have a wooden front door that desperately needs some attention. It's probably the original door from 1929 and seems to be finished with a brushed on stain. It may have been varnished but if so it's certainly not easy to tell now.
I'd like some advice please on how to best prepare and finish the door to protect the wood, bring out the colour and grain, and deal with the colour variation towards the bottom of the door. I'll need to do the step as well. I'm looking for a natural wood style finish - i.e . stain, dye, danish oil, varnish etc - not paint.
The frame will be repainted with black gloss.
All advice much appreciated! Thanks!
