my new garage i have to turn the existing outside door into a fire door between garage and kitchen. I want to use the existing frame if i can. It is an all in one unit almost like an L shape. The door stops are part of the frame. Would this be ok to use, i believe i need to increase the door stop to 25mm(?) as it current is about 12mm, can i just nail and glue an extra piece of wood on for this. I will upload photos if i need to, thanks

Yes you can nail and glue new stops.

This L shaped frame sounds like a combi-frame - door with glass panel next to it?

If it is, and you are keeping is as a window, then you will need a fire resistant glass or a Georgian wired glass

steve - increased thickness to door stops can sometimes have implications for the position of handes & knobs. It's not unknown for these to be fitted too close to the larger stops resulting in 'trapped' or grazed knuckles. So you may have to fit 'longer' locks/catches, rather than recycle the old furniture, to throw the handle/knob further away from the stops.
