I have a chimney breast which has been blocked up and plastered over and I also have a wooden surround that sits on a hearth.. I was going to put a wooden back on the fire surround and buy a bio ethanol fire.
I have since discovered I won't be able to use a wooden board as the fire has to be surrounded by non combustible material so I thought perhaps I could fix some gyproc fire line plasterboard and cut a hole in this as the ethanol fire is wall mounted but recessed.. I would then fix the fire to the wall behind but it would effectively be flush with the plaster board on the front.. I would then tile the plaster board.
The fire is contained fully in its own chamber so no flames would come anywhere near anything other than its own chamber and it would just be the heat radiated from the chamber I need to worry about.
Would this be enough in terms of non combustible material? I have seen you can use fire board but this is significantly more expensive for a little project like this.
