Having bought our 1950's Semi there was an old back boiler and gas fire in the rear fireplace and an old gas fire in the front fireplace.
Having removed the two fires and the boiler we could see what the fireplaces were like:
Rear
Front after a tiny bit of work
Front with plastered and papered walls, and slate hearths (loose)
Back with plastered and papered walls, and slate hearths (loose)
Back with slate hearths cemented, grouted, and polished
Eventually we will have a wood burner in the front and log storage in the rear.
Does anyone know where to get decent oak mantels? I am just after the over mantel, no legs, no corbels.
I'm also after a bit of trim to go around the fireplace to hide the join between the plaster and the bricks. Any ideas where would do these?
