Hi

Just wondered what are the building regs for fire stopping, is it whenever you drill through a wall no matter how small the hole is you must fire stop it, or is it only on holes greater then say 30mm.

Ive drilled a number of 16mm holes for cables and am told they require fire stopping but I cant see how a fire can spread through a 16mm hole which has a fire rated cable through it. (FP200)

Cheers

my 2p worth

its not the direct fire but the heat radiation. since there will be a gap it will be easier for the heat to get through and ignite whatever

It also prevents the passage of smoke between rooms in the event of a fire

Keep a tube of intumescent sealant in the toolbox. Every time you drill a hole, fill it with the stuff.
