looking to remove a gas fire [already disconnected ] which is held in place by what looks like two fillets/ side cheeks which match up to the original surround, and block up the gap between surround and appliance.must be one on top gap as well.
there are three small holes in both cheeks, which i guess are for screws/ allan keys. has anyone seen something like this b4.they seem to be corroded and i can't fit anything in at present, so any previous experience could help me out.

What make and model of fire?
Is it a conventional fire with radiants?
If so you should be able to remove the case, by looking underneath the fire, there may be a screw on either side to remove, also may be screw either side at the top of the fire visible through the louvres.
Sometimes this type of fire had decorative panels on either side, of leather or a different colour wood, is it those?

thanks for your reply sandwell.
i'll take some photo's and post a new thread to make things clearer.

took a photo b4 taking slab away from below fireplace.
as i was taking the slab away, the sides just dropped away from the mantel. its an old fireplace, cast iron, with tiles on the side cheeks.
so the holes meant nothing at all!
thanks for your help sandwell.
