Can anyone help me with a fireplace problem? I live in a 1950's red-brick semi, where the origional fireplace has been removed and replaced with what I am assuming is a late 60's/early 70's surround.
It has a wooden mantlepiece, and wooden frame with the backing and hearth of nicotine coloured rectangular tiles
A laminate floor has been fitted round the hearth, so I cannot remove the fire surround; but wish to update it.
What kind of tiles should I use? Can I tile over the top of the current tiles? Can I paint the current tiles and if so, do I need a special 'heat resistant' tile paint?
BTW - The fire place is now a living flame gas fire rather than solid fuel.
Many thanks
