I find it sad that fireworks, no longer smell of gunpowder, now in general they all use plastic explosive, but the smell of old.... arrghh !!

Have you noticed how loud they are this year or am I getting old.

Just realised how little noise last night --- is that due to law ? Or just that very local kids are now too old for back-garden stuff ?

Plastic is far louder than the old gunpowder, different kind of explosion. Plastic is kind of safer, as long as it doesn't go off in your face, in which case, far more likely to be fatal.

I think I've read it somewhere, no fireworks after 11pm.

That is correct, and not before 7am as well. Pretty much common sense I would say, but then again, commons sense is not all that common.

If those hours are correct, they are the same curfew hours as a car horn...

EH?! WHAT?!

We let off a big load of them tonight, definitely very loud. Got a very large boxful, all of them spectacular. The air was perfectly still, so we had spent rockets landing within 10-15 feet of their launch position, and they were BIIIIIG rockets, sticks 4-5 feet long, flying hundreds of feet into the air jobbies!!!

Yes, they did seem louder than normal, I just put it down to buying more expensive ones this year... With so many people setting off fireworks it sounded like a warzone round here tonight, makes you think...

Fireworks seemed to go a bit pansy a couple of years ago, good to see they are now back and ready to perforate eardrums.

Went to a pub meal last night and nice slow walk home :) has to duck and dive the flying rocket sticks :!: Some of them were about 3/8" square & 36" long :!: Next time I taking my hard hat :) Can't be safe can it unless they're very light wood material.

Living where I do, the sounds of gunfire from Salisbury plain is quite amazing sometimes.... Sort of there and sort of not ... with no other sounds in house the rumble is quite distinct ... flashes in sky too on occasion .. around 20m distant.

Where I used to live, we used to get mysterious flashes of light in the sky. I took quite some years before I realised it was electric arcing from the nearby tube line!

I let some 4ft rockets off last night, they had fence posts attached to them . I tried to be as considerate as possible and aim them into the neighbouring field of sheep, but god knows if I clonked any of them. I'll just go check, see if we've got lamb for lunch ;)

The other thing that amused me was when it said spectators must be at least 25 meters away, as unfortunately I only have a postage stamp size back garden, this would mean I'd have to light the firework, and retire immediately to the downstairs bog, or garage

Isn't it odd that as you grow older you admonish youngsters for doing exactly what you did at their age.
And when I was young, the rockets just zoomed up into the sky, and went out, that was it, they weren't designed to do anything else.
Me and my mates used to buy all the rockets with broken sticks, cheap of course.
They don't fly too well because the balance isn't there, but you can imagine the thrill of letting one off laying on a road as a car comes round the bend with the unsuspecting driver watching this thing coming at him and bouncing from kerb to kerb.
Magic.

I'm sure the fireworks are a lot louder, probably come from the Bin Laden factory.
