I'd like a "fit and forget" camera for the front of my house. I have 2 eufy rechargeable motion activated WiFi things which are pretty good but would like something that just records constantly and covers the driveway, the verge in front and the road (people have a habit of trying to run us off the road when we enter and leave by car) I think the range would be about 30m.

Ideally with a few weeks storage, not bothered about connectivity, good "night vision", hard wired. Happy to get something used on eBay as I don't want to spend too much.

Want the world on a piece of grass budget.

The reality is a camera with an sd card that records weeks of continuous footage with a decent image is unlikley.

So what is your budget ?
You can get budget cameras and a DVR or NVR and a harddrive.

30M is a distance to get an identifiable image even at 8MP, you would need a narrow view.

a PTRZ would be cheaper than a PTZ, however it won’t track but it would allow flexibility in view.

Still need an NVR then nd a suitable hdd size.

Tapo 310 camera has sd card and records constant video for months .
Sends image to phone when triggered by various options.
If traffic is passing your home you won’t see number plates no matter how good the camera.

This is from one of my eufy's and pretty much exactly what I want, they only start recording when someone enters the driveway and seem to record short clips - I want something similar that records constantly - not bothered about number plates - just want an overview/record of dodgy goings on outside my house, for example I recently had a transit pickup on the paving at the front delivering some building materials, a woman parked illegally on the footpath reversed her Audi into it and made a right mess of her car and insanely tried to blame my driver until I pointed at the cameras (which obviously hadn't picked up anything).

The piece of grass budget is under £200 so obviously not professional gear.

Like I said TAPO cam is suitable .

If you zoom in top right you can see a neighbour bouncing with joy as his drug dealer drops off ( White Audi).

Thanks, happy customer there! - I think I mistakenly discounted the TAPO because it's just "too cheap", despite finding my existing cheap EUFY's very good for a similar low price (and the other poster seemed to suggest I need a big budget - I appreciate I probably would for professional kit).

As I already have 3 eufy items I've looked and they do a similar budget thing (E330) that also does continuous recording and connects to the eufy basestation into which you can then plug an external HDD.

I cant compare options for you as couldn’t find the full spec of the camera.

So can’t say the equivalent of another brand with any degree of certainty.

To see number plates you need the correct viewing angle to start with, some cameras are capable of varying degrees, night time is where most cameras would fail to read plates unless specifically designed to do so.

ANPR cameras for example have high frame rates but often very low resolution by todays standards.

You have to get the right fit for you.
But 1 camera and base station and hdd soon adds up.

So I bought this for £300:

And a 1tb HDD from eBay for £20 - just slots in the homebase.

The new homebase works with my older door bell and battery cameras and I only want one of the 3 cameras from the new set so I can sell two new cameras, one old camera and the old homebase so the overall cost to upgrade is quite low.

It's been recording constantly since 5pm yesterday so it looks like storage will last ages.
