Heating didnt come on today, checked tank and we had 4 inches of oil. Had ordered 500 litres 1st week of December and unsure if we just used it more over the cold spell or has a thief paid a visit recently. (We have a lock but I failed to put it on!)

Looking at purchasing 'watchman sonic advanced' to keep a closer eye on it.

The website says 'Make it Smart by adding the Watchman SENSiT & Watchman Advanced Smart WiFi tank level USB receiver'.

Can anyone confirm what this usb receiver does? Do I need it?

Also I'm not sure if the part circled in my picture is where I can fit, it or is it a vent?

The standard watchman work fine easy to fit
looks like a single skin tank so just use a starret type cutter to drill hole in any flat section and fit sensor unit.
Measure tank follow instructions to set up.
Usb receiver only needed if you want look at read out on your phone.
Be aware a number off Internet routers don't work with the watchman WiFi unit.

Thanks for the info. Googled the phone app and that might actually be useful.

So that cap circled is a vent and not to be used then?

As you say that's a vent needs to stay.
Some of later tanks have a connection blanked of ready but tank dead easy to drill.
Don't pre drill holes that hold sensor down much better wound straight into plastic.
