Hi,

Our chrome bath waste came with a rubber ring.

Here is a picture of the 2 bits

I can see at least 4 options when it comes to siliconing it to the bath

Options

1) Throw the rubber ring in the bin, and just use a smear of silicone
2) Just put a smear of silicone underneath the rubber ring.
3) Just put the smear of silicone between the rubber ring and the chrome bit
4) Put a smear of silicone underneath the rubber ring AND a smear underneath the chrome bit (so 2 smears of silicone)

What do you guys do?

PS. My silicone is Dow Corning 785.

Thanks in advance.

My way of doing it:

a. Throw away white rubber / foam type seal.
b. Put a ring "sausage" of plumbers mait between chrome and bath.
c. Use black rubber flat washer under waste nut to underside of bath.
d. Do up tight. Scrape extruded plumbers mait off from chrome / bath.
e. Clear off any remainder with white spirit.

On good quality bath wastes the white foam rubber sealing washer is usually enough, but to me its not worth using it and then having to go back to the method above if it does leak.

Certainly throw away the white rubber washer but you will need more than a smear to replace it. Fill the void so that the silicon pushes out when tightened, then remove the excess with tissue before it sets
