I need to fit a blind above a set of bi-fold doors where there is an RSJ and two layers of blue plasterboard.

Would you aim to get a fix into the RSJ or settle for the PB’s?

Thanks

chriselevate, good evening.

By any chance?? do you know if there any timber bearers jammed into the beam of the web? to provide support and a fix for the plasterboard, there will also [probably] be a horizontal timber bearer so the vertical Plasterboard and the horizontal Plasterboard can be fixed around the steel beam.

If one is fitted? you could utilize it to fit the blind?

Thanks Ken. Yes there were timbers in the web but not on the underside of the RSJ. As far as I’m aware the Plasterer’s used plasterboard adhesive to fit the two skins of blue boards to the underside of the RSJ.

Ok, common practice.

Suggest you consider, using as strong a Magnet as you can, slide the magnet over the plasterboard, that way you can find the screws fixing the Plasterboard, to the timber in the web.

Or? if you have a very bright light [I use a 1000 Lumins Torch] Hold the light so the light floods along the surface, hold the light close to the surface and you tend to be able to see the screw heads and there filler?

Went easily into my steel 10mm thick, you will only need one per bracket .

You can get pan head screws, same style.
I would not like to use them without a hex head as I had to use quite a high speed & exert a lot of pressure when I fitted wall plates to a steel box section frame.

Thats why they come with torx head , no cam out.
