Just taken up an awful laminate floor.
It has previously had carpet, and when old gripper strips removed created loads of holes in the screed ...plus my Father had chiseled a channel for a cable he installed now removed)
Made good all holes with screed repair mortar.
Will be installing carpet ... thinking might be better not to knock another load of holes in screed.
What is considered opinion on gluing down carpet fixing strips instead (using FlexyFix) would also use it fir transition strips.
Thoughts ?

Prime with what .... PVA & water ... ?

Also is there optimum distance to fit away from the skirting

Pva diluted will do. Or a floor primer, some fitters use carpet spray.
Depends on the carpet thickness. 6mm is the usually.

Saw a youtube clip they used a piece of carpet gripper on edge as the spacer .... so guess that is about 6mm

Yeah a lot use that. What carpet are you having.

Don't know, will be a reasonable hessian backed solid colour.....will put down a 10mm underlay ... assume no plastic sheet required beneath underlay ..... no damp in the floor
